Dear Colleagues,It is with great pride that we announce today that Teresa Frontado becomes el Nuevo Herald’s Senior Editor for Online and Production. In her new role, Teresa will continue to oversee our growing onlineand social media operation, she will now have our production team as part of her team and will also have a Dayside News Editor reporting to her (we will be sending a job posting soon). This is all in an effort to create a Multi-platform News Desk, geared to maintain our high standards in our newspaper while at the same time ensuring a continuous feed of news and information to our website, mobile edition and social media. Teresa is absolutely the right person for this responsibility. Under her leadership, el Nuevo Herald’s web, mobile and social media presence skyrocketed: our website leads McClatchy with our readers spending the most time on the site; our unique local visitor traffic -- a key measure -- consistently exceeds goal; our Facebook likes and Twitter followers continue to grow. But this is just one measure of her contribution. She works closely with our reporters on breaking news, enterprise and watchdog. She develops our summer interns, she works across divisions, whether it is collaborating with The Miami Herald CND team, the Interactive Team, Circulation, Marketing and Advertising. Teresa has been responsible for digital innovation in the newsroom, customizing training in areas such as SEO, Social Media and Blogging to the specific needs of reporters and copy editors. Teresa collaborated with the Web Development team to redesign el Nuevo Herald.com’s website, el Nuevo Herald’s mobile edition and el Nuevo Herald's iPhone application.Above all Teresa is a journalist: a supporter of strong beat and investigative reporting. Before joining el Nuevo Herald, Teresa was the U.S. Correspondent for El Nacional in Venezuela. She also covered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Caracas, and was Assistant Editor of the International Pages. Teresa holds two master’s degrees, one in the Arts from the University of Miami, and a second in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University. She is a graduate of the Poynter Institute’s Leadership Academy, a recipient of an IRE Fellowship, and most recently a fellow at New York Times/Maynard Institute Leadership Academy, at Harvard University. She is a member of the Miami Fellow Class VI, The Miami Foundation Leadership program. Please join me in congratulating Teresa on this well deserved promotion.Manny
